The Position

Your role stands at the intersection of providing administrative support to our Illinois affiliate and the fight to change the odds for children and families in under-resourced communities. As a key member of Stand’s Illinois team, you support the affiliate in their efforts to build on the progress to date to improve outcomes for students across the state. The State Operations Coordinator is responsible for providing executive support, coordinating operations and office management systems, as well as assisting in event and project management. This individual will play a key role in planning and supporting impactful campaigns. Through your proactive organized approach to the role, you will have the opportunity to work with colleagues who not only care deeply about justice and equity, but who are bold and strategic and take responsibility for achieving substantial progress toward our mission.



Executive Support:

  • Maintaining the Illinois Executive Director’s schedule, coordinating team calendars, and scheduling meetings and calls among staff and with funders, coalition partners, elected officials, and others;
  • Helping with meeting preparation, facilitation, and follow-up;
  • Supporting development efforts including data management, tracking grant deliverables, and acknowledgement of gifts;
  • Receiving and promptly processing media inquiries;
  • Making sure team timesheets are accurate and submitted by deadlines;
  • Preparing accurate and timely expense reports for members of the Illinois team;
  • Managing travel logistics; and
  • Providing other administrative support as needed.


Operations and Office Management:

  • Creating, implementing, maintaining, and managing office systems;
  • Providing responsive customer service to the public by greeting visitors, answering phones and managing general inquiry e-mail account;
  • Managing relationships with vendors and coordinating all office purchasing and supplies and ensuring they are within budget;
  • Managing technology systems at the local level, including copier and intranet site;
  • Liaising with off-site shared services teams including technology, finance, human resources, and compliance;
  • Coordinating with the other Stand teams on onboarding of new staff and managing office layout and resources; and
  • Planning and overseeing office outings and activities.


Event and Project Management:

  • Support the planning and execution for a wide variety of high-stakes and impactful activities such as working with the family engagement and organizing staff on summer literacy and member events on the south and west sides of Chicago, assisting the communications team with press events across the state, helping the government affairs team with mobilizations at the state Capitol, and with canvassing and phone banks.


  • Passionate and unwavering belief in that all children can and must graduate from high school prepared for and with access to college or career training;
  • Minimum of two years of professional administrative/executive support experience;
  • Strong writing skills;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word; high comfort level with technology necessary;
  • Exceptional organizational skills, keen attention to detail, proactive problem-solving skills, and exemplary customer-service orientation;
  • Ability to gracefully manage multiple tasks and projects under pressure and on deadline;
  • Interest in working with under-resourced communities;
  • Strong aptitude and desire to implement office operations and systems, identifying inefficiencies and system improvements as needed;
  • Experience with and voter files is helpful; and
  • Fluency in Spanish is beneficial.


A flexible schedule for the exceptional candidate will be considered. At the same time, the occasional weekend or early/late hour commitment will be required, but advance notice will be provided.


Roles typically require the ability to be stationary for extended periods of time, to transfer items less than 10 pounds, and may require the ability to climb stairs.


Stand for Children consists of two separate entities. Stand for Children, Inc., a grassroots membership organization is exempt under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code, and Stand for Children Leadership Center, a leadership development organization is exempt under section 501(c)(3)
