The Organization

Stand is a non-profit education advocacy group that believes ALL children deserve an equal opportunity to succeed in life. Stand works to accomplish this mission through:

We focus primarily on increasing early literacy and high school success. Additional priorities include, improving school quality and ensuring adequate funding spent wisely.

The Position

This part-time position is responsible for working within schools and in the community to recruit parents and other community members who are committed to working with Stand to reach its Momentum Memphis Campaign goals. The campaign seeks to influence change in four primary platform areas.

  • Graduation Success for College & Career
  • Community Investment for Youth Success
  • Facilities & Funding our Students Deserve
  • Breaking the School to Prison Pipeline

The goal of this position is to assist Stand in getting 15,000 citizens to commit by April 2018 to taking at least two actions to support the platform areas. This position works under the supervision of the Campaign Manager.



  • Seek opportunities to engage community members who are ready and willing to participate and act in activities that boost success around the four platform areas.
  • Commit to working a minimum of 10 hours weekly from December 15, 2017 through April 30, 2018.
  • Work with the Campaign Manager to engage in a process of community mapping and planning to outline opportunities for engaging community members.
  • Commit to community engagement activities and cultivating relationships that secure a minimum of 1,000 commitment cards signed by community members.
  • Willing to phone bank, canvass, attend meetings, present information, table at key events and other identified activities that support the campaign.


Communicating and Reporting

  • The Outreach Coordinator will participate in weekly check-ins with the Campaign Manager, to strategize, plan and discuss the ongoing work.
  • The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for the timely collection and management of pledge cards and specified data entry processes.
  • The Outreach Coordinator will submit a weekly report detailing their activities and results.
  • The Outreach Coordinator will attend the monthly Strategy Team Meetings at Stand.
  • The Outreach Coordinator is expected to be prompt for all meetings and engagements arriving early when necessary.
  • Work with Campaign Manager to identify potential Momentum Memphis partners and supportive community leaders.


  • Highly organized and responsible self-starter.
  • Experience inspiring other colleagues, volunteers and community members.
  • A demonstrated passion for young people and improving conditions that support students.
  • Commitment to meeting and/or exceeding the goals of the Momentum Memphis Campaign.
  • Knowledge of the Shelby County school system is a plus.
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity and understanding.
  • A people person, willing to work in diverse communities.
  • A valid Driver’s License, good driving record and access to reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings and possibly weekends.
  • A cell phone with the ability to receive calls and text messages.
  • Access to a computer and the ability to receive emails.



  • Participate in 4 hours of onboarding training.
  • Commit to work from December 15, 2017 through April 30, 2018.
  • A willingness to work in diverse communities.
  • Commit to securing a minimum of 1,000 commitment cards signed by community members.
  • Perseverance, pursue everything with a can-do attitude, drive with energy and a need to accomplish goals.
  • Willing to problem solve, overcome hurdles and persist beyond setbacks.


Stand for Children consists of two separate entities. Stand for Children, Inc., a grassroots membership organization is exempt under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code, and Stand for Children Leadership Center, a leadership development organization is exempt under section 501(c)(3)
