The Organization

We focus primarily on increasing early literacy and high school success. Additional priorities include, improving school quality and ensuring adequate funding spent wisely.

The Position

Your role stands at the intersection of organizing and the fight to change the odds for low-income children and families. As a key member of Stand’s leadership at a moment of tremendous need and opportunity, you build on the progress to date to create a national organizing effort capable of impacting local, state, and federal policy decisions and elections.  As someone motivated by results and impact, you get the opportunity to work with colleagues who not only care deeply about justice and equity, but who are bold and strategic and take responsibility for achieving substantial progress toward greater justice and equity every year, everywhere we work.  Through your innovative and strategic leadership of a growing organizing program and new membership benefits model, you take Stand’s impact to new heights while empowering and developing the leadership of thousands of parents from under tapped communities in the process.

Responsibilities

  • Strengthen Stand’s current organizing model; take our urban organizing to the next level of scale and impact; pilot and hone a statewide organizing strategy that enables a solid ongoing presence in targeted location to impact state policy decisions and elections and, where relevant, federal policy decisions and elections;
  • Spearhead the development, testing, and roll out of a package of useful, economically viable membership benefits that will facilitate recruitment and retention of low- and moderate-income families aligned with Stand’s priorities;
  • Hire, manage, and develop Stand’s national organizing support staff, ensuring they provide outstanding training, coaching, convening, tools, and data to our rapidly scaling network of full- and part-time organizers;
  • Continually identify ways to improve Stand’s organizing program through analysis of data, qualitative feedback, regular visits to affiliates, and deep dives with positive deviants and oversee the change management process to implement improvements across a dispersed network;
  • Upgrade Stand’s systems, processes and tools to better support the program and assist in evaluating the success of the program against key performance indicators.

Qualifications

  • Passionate and unwavering belief in that all children can and must graduate from high school prepared for and with access to college or career training;
  • Demonstrated success and leadership in managing and growing a large-scale community organizing program, preferably within political and/or issue advocacy environments;
  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills;
  • Superb, proven management skills, ideally within a matrix management organization;
  • Experience developing or overseeing a membership model a plus.
  • Roles typically require the ability to be stationary for extended periods of time, to travel to meetings outside of the office, to lift more than 10 pounds on occasion, and may require the ability to climb stairs

Stand for Children consists of two separate entities. Stand for Children, Inc., a grassroots membership organization is exempt under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code, and Stand for Children Leadership Center, a leadership development organization is exempt under section 501(c)(3)
